Understanding Planetary Dignities

Traditional astrology assigns each planet signs where it functions well or with difficulty:

Strong Placements

  • Domicile: Planet rules this sign — at home
  • Exaltation: Planet is honored — extra power

Challenging Placements

  • Detriment: Opposite its domicile — awkward fit
  • Fall: Opposite exaltation — struggles to express

Note: "Challenging" doesn't mean "bad." Planets in detriment or fall often develop unique strengths through working harder to express their nature.
