About House Systems
Different traditions use different house systems. Whole Sign (used in Hellenistic and Vedic) assigns one sign per house. Placidus (common in modern Western) calculates houses based on time/space divisions. One Ascendant offers both — your Ascendant sign always begins your 1st house.
House of Self
Natural: Aries /Mars
The first house is YOU — your physical body, personality, and how you present yourself to the world. It begins at the Ascendant.
House of Value
Natural: Taurus /Venus
The second house governs your relationship with material security — what you own, earn, and value.
House of Communication
Natural: Gemini /Mercury
The third house rules your immediate environment — how you think, communicate, and connect with siblings and neighbors.
House of Home
Natural: Cancer /Moon
The fourth house is your foundation — home, family, ancestry, and your innermost private self. It begins at the IC (Imum Coeli).
House of Pleasure
Natural: Leo /Sun
The fifth house is where you express yourself creatively and seek joy — through art, romance, play, and children.
House of Service
Natural: Virgo /Mercury
The sixth house governs your daily work, health habits, and service to others — the practical details of life.
House of Partnership
Natural: Libra /Venus
The seventh house is about one-to-one relationships — marriage, business partners, and open opponents. It begins at the Descendant.
House of Transformation
Natural: Scorpio /Pluto
The eighth house deals with what's shared, hidden, and transformative — other people's money, sexuality, death, and psychological depth.
House of Philosophy
Natural: Sagittarius /Jupiter
The ninth house is about expanding beyond the familiar — through travel, higher education, philosophy, and spiritual seeking.
House of Career
Natural: Capricorn /Saturn
The tenth house is your public face — career, reputation, and what you achieve in the world. It begins at the MC (Midheaven).
House of Community
Natural: Aquarius /Uranus
The eleventh house connects you to the collective — friends, groups, social causes, and your hopes for the future.
House of the Unconscious
Natural: Pisces /Neptune
The twelfth house is the realm of the unseen — the unconscious, spirituality, secrets, and where we dissolve boundaries.

What About Empty Houses?
Most charts have several houses with no planets in them. This is normal and doesn't mean those life areas are unimportant.
- Look to the house ruler (planet that rules the sign on the cusp)
- Empty houses may run more smoothly — less internal conflict
- Transits will still activate empty houses when planets pass through
